Learning Disability - Orthographic Processing

Today I sat in on a feedback meeting with our board psychometrist and the parent of a girl recently diagnosed as having an LD (Learning Disability).  As the diagnosis was being explained to us, it was specified that this child has difficulties with "Orthographic Processing."  This is not the "classic" LD, as it were, but one that relates more to the inability to store letters and words in long-term memory.

So in updating the IEP today, I began the search online for how to better explain this particular LD to the teachers who are involved with this little girl.  I happened across this "Fact Sheet" online, and found that it did a really good job of explaining what the psychometrist had spoken about in our meeting.  So I thought I'd share it here in hopes that it may help someone else.

Hello World!

Today I'm learning about the benefits of blogging during a ICT conference put on by the Elementary Teacher Federation of Ontario.  I'm very interested in getting out there, and learning about what other teachers are doing in the area of Special Education.  My hope is that I can connect to other amazing teachers to learn from them, and eventually provide some ideas of my own.

So Hello World!  I'm here!
